I actually love cruise control and retarder so much and use them extensively. I adjust the cruise control step by using the mouse wheel and rely on automatic retarder (I should map the keys to a better location though) but for some reason, I've never used realistic fuel consumption with this setup. Standard setting is that the retarder only activates 7kph beyond the set engine cruise control speed, and switches of at +3 or 4kph over set speed again. So you will always go at least 3-7kph over set speed on steep downhill.
